Two Truths: Reframing My Past and Finding My Foundation
October 4, 2026
Writing ‘My Soil and My Sky’ offered me a fresh perspective on ‘The Concrete Archive.’
‘The Concrete Archive’ is my story—a record of my past filtered through my emotions, experiences, and perception of reality at the time. For a long time, I felt certain about what that history held: disappointment, heartbreak, loss, and abuse. It was a period where I fought daily not to be consumed by my surroundings. Originally, writing it was meant to be an emotional release to help heal parts of myself I was only beginning to face.
However, after returning to ‘My Soil and My Sky’ and reading it repeatedly, my relationship with those past experiences began to shift. It brought the significance of ‘My Soil’ and ‘My Sky’ into focus, allowing me to view my journey as the foundation that forged an unbreakable bond with my sisters. While the pain of that time remains real, I now recognize that the love built in those same circumstances is enduring and deeply transcendent—a connection so powerful it feels written in the stars and capable of powering its own universe.
Every obstacle overcome and every milestone reached was driven by the strength of ‘My Soil’ and ‘My Sky.’ I am still realizing that a piece I thought I was writing for others was actually a letter to myself—and in writing it, my perspective truly changed.
It is deeply humbling to accept a new point of view, to speak a different truth, and to venture into a new reality. I have come to learn that two seemingly opposing things can be true at once: I was an unparented child, yet I was never unloved, unprotected, or unsupported. That reality granted me a solid foundation and the encouragement to reach for my goals. 'My Soil' and 'My Sky' represent the best parts of my past, as well as the foundation of my present and future.
